The DVR is Great

By Maria Birch

Back when I was in college, I remember reading about a new concept in a technology magazine. It was called a digital video recorder and it would store hours' worth of television shows on a digital hard drive without the need for cassette tapes.

The concept of recording an entire series without having to manually set it up each time was even more amazing to me. I could be out at night without having to worry about forgetting to record my favorite shows. I could also watch two things at once if there was a conflicting schedule.

If I was out at night for dinner, I could come home and watch my favorite shows a few hours after they were originally broadcast. I wouldn't need to worry about a tape running out of room, or having to buy new ones.

This all seemed too good to be true, but the first units sold for $1,000 before dropping in price by several hundred dollars during the next year or two. Finally, I was inspired to buy one and couldn't wait to try it out. I loved it, and the only nuisance was the fact that I'd need to dial in to update the program listings.

Other than this, it essentially worked just as it does now, only it'd hold a few hours at a time.

It seems like just about everyone has a DVR these days. Many cable companies offer them directly as part of the package. Others have standalone Tivo units. They're stronger, faster, and of better quality than ever before.

It seems like it's been ages since the DVR was introduced, but it really hasn't been so long. Still, like cell phones and other recent inventions, it's hard to imagine life without it.

As I finish writing this article, I'm getting ready to curl up by the fireplace and watch my favorite recorded show. I wouldn't be able to do this without my DVR. - 30542

Why Sports are so Much Better in HD TV

By Zeeman Haus

If people are considering purchasing an HDTV then they should really take the model's contrast ratio into consideration. The contrast ratio along with screen resolution, have a major effect on the overall picture. A high contrast ratio is desired since these models produce fantastic colors that most accurately reflect "real world" conditions.

The contrast ratio is defined as a unit of measure between the brightest color (white) and the darkest one (black). Today, every type of television available whether it be a traditional CRT television, plasma, LCD or LED, all produce different contrast levels.

Unlike most product tests, there is not a standard procedure for measuring the contrast ratio. Each manufacturer determines their own method to measure the ratio which makes it almost impossible to compare different models. However, ANSI (American National Standards Institute) has developed a test using a checkerboard panel to measure both the white and black simultaneously. The conditions of the room will play a role in the results of the ANSI test, but many companies now use this method to test the contrast ratio.

Another method used to measure contrast ratio in HDTV is called the "full on full off method" and it measures the ratio between a pure black and pure white screen. The test will usually produce a higher contrast ratio but it is not a good representation of realistic viewing conditions.

Most people do not associate producing a dark black with blinding color, but the two actually make a great combination. A person's HDTV picture is made up of hundreds of thousands of tiny pixels and the individual pixels are assembled to form an overall picture. Moreover, the sharpest images are able to precisely separate the black pixels from nearby lighter pixels. In fact, companies, especially plasma TV manufacturers, are constantly striving to refine their technology to combat this "light leakage".

Plasma TV's have generally offered the highest contrast ratios with certain companies advertising ratios as high as 1,000,000 to 1. LCD and now LED technology have since been able to equal these contrast ratios while providing even brighter colors.

One thing to remember regarding contrast ratio is that it does not play a role in how well motion is displayed. HDTV delivers an incredibly superb picture so it is important to select a television with a good contrast ratio. After all, one should not waste the features of an HDTV by using an old television with a poor contrast.

If a person loves the experience of HDTV and HD movies then a television with a high contrast ratio is the model to buy. No matter what type of television, whether it is plasma, LCD or LED, the screen resolution should always be taken into consideration. In the end, one should factor in all of their wants and needs before purchasing a television. - 30542

How To Find The Best Comcast Cable Deals Online

By Sam Bousaks

Finished are the days when you have to call the cable company to sign up for the services and features that you want. This means no more having to follow computer prompts over the phone, no more being put on hold, and no more having to be forwarded to other departments if you reach the wrong one. Instead, you can sit in the comfort of your home at your very own computer and browse the many packages deals that Comcast has for your particular area.

Once you browse the deals that Comcast has for you, you are able to then sign up for the deals that you want online. But be mindful of what youre looking at. For example, you may decide that you just want digital cable because you have DSL for Internet and you dont have a need for Comcasts high-speed Internet. However, you need to evaluate something outside of Comcast and that is your DSL bill. Look at how much you are paying for your DSL and add that to how much you will pay for your digital cable. You may find that the two together cost less than paying your digital cable and DSL separately. Comcast is also offering $100 back in gas or groceries for each service that you order.

But lets look at this in a different way. Lets say your internet and your phone bill are bundled together. Now look at how much you will pay for digital cable and your DSL/phone bill. Compare how much it would cost for you to pay your digital cable and your DSL/phone bill. Now look at how much you would pay if you were to combine your digital cable, high-speed Internet, and your voice service onto one bill. There is a very good chance that you would be saving money and getting a lot more in the way of service. If you get all three, you are purchasing the Comcast Triple Play package, which means you get $300 back in groceries or gas.

You get so much in the way of more channels to choose from, faster Internet, and telephone service with more options for less money. You dont even have to change your phone number. The transition is very smooth so that you dont have to miss a beat when you are transferring your phone service. The same goes for switching Internet services. It is all as seamless as possible.

Youll be quite surprised how many options you have with Comcast Cable and how much money that you can save. There is also the fact that you can pay for three services on a single bill. That means there are two fewer bills to keep track of, two fewer payments to worry about, and Comcast is so reliable that you have three reliable services. So go ahead and check out the online deals so that you can sign up for the services that are right for you. - 30542

LED Televisions Are The Next Big Thing

By Patty Johonson

The first LED lights were used in status and indicator lights. But, over the last six years or so, these amazing lights have started being used for far more than just these dinky little lights. Light-emitting diodes (LED) technology is now taking the world of television electronics by storm, and Samsung is leading the way.

These little light-emitting diodes are now overtaking the old CCFL (cold cathod flourescent lamps) as the main light source used in television sets, and Samsung's LED Full HD televisions are the first in this new class of tv to hit the market. Because of this new technology, people can now enjoy viewing their favorite shows with sharper, higher-contrast images. Even more, these televisions are sleeker and take up far less space their their old counterparts.

Samsung's LED TV's are also lending a hand in the fight to improve our environment by being energy-friendly, and lowering consumers' power bills. They are also more environmentally friendly to dispose of, as they don't use mercury, and therefore contribute less harmful chemicals to our environment at the end of their lifespan than the older model televisions do. LCD TV's only have a lifespan of about sixty-thousand hours. Compared to LED tv's forth-thousand viewing hours, it doesn't seem so great. But, because LED televisions save so much money in power consumption, it definitely ends up being worth it in the long run! LED tv's can, on the small scale, lower televisions' energy consumption by nearly 40% when compared to similarly sized LCD high-def tvs.

LED technology captures the natural colors of real life with the production of darker blacks, crisp whites, and strong contrast between dark and vivid colors. Samsung also enhanced its LED-powered products with Auto Motion Plus frame interpolation, which effectively reduces image judder and motion blur.

Auto Motion Plus Frame Interpolation or AMPFI incorporates a frame rate of 120 hz and mega contrast ratio into the brand's LED Full HD TV B6000, guaranteed to satisfy sports fans, video gamers, and movie buffs. The TV also has USB 2.0 Movie features for better enjoyment of music and images. - 30542

Pros And Cons Of Popular Sony Tvs

By Matthew Kerridge

With so many companies making so many features on TV sets today it is a wonder we ever know what we are getting. Here we have compiled a list of the best Sony TVs on the markets today with information on them you need to know.

For everyone to get the best view of a movie or show when watching the tube then the Sony Plasma 60 inch is a good bet. These fit perfectly in spaces that are smaller and are fairly light so moving can be done easily. They have a depth of only 6 inches.

The newer models in plasma are far better for the energy efficiency as they do not use as much power as the older models, which can lead to lower power bills.

The cons of these sets are the problem with ghost shadowing where a picture that is paused too long on the screen can become a pert of the screen sometimes permanently if left too long. It is also very reflective in the screen and does produce glaring in brightened rooms. This can interrupt your viewing quality.

The expansive viewing of a Sony front Projection TV is like having your very own theater at home. Just think what your favorite show or sports event would look, like on the huge screen.

The screen size can be as large as you want it to be up to 200 inches. You buy the screens separately from the projectors. The projection TV is then set up to show on the screen size you purchased.

The quality of picture you receive is ranked very high for view ability. It can be a little frustrating though as you have to purchase a lot of extras to get it to work with TV/Satellite programming and movie watching.

You will need amplifiers and speakers to be able to hear as this system does not have audio capabilities. To watch TV or Satellite channels you will have to purchase an external tuner and if you want to watch your movies then you will also need to buy a DVD system.

For excellent high definition pictures and quality there is no other choice than the Sony LCD set. You can place these over mantles, on walls or on the classic TV stand. They are so light in weight and thin so they are easily adapted to just about any space and you can find some 100 inch screens in specialized store instead of the largest 60 inch ones.

Most Sony Tvs with LCD technology come in screens up to a 60 inch but in many show rooms some have been previewed with 100 inch screens. All in all this is the best set for your money as it really as no bad things or cons to talk about. - 30542

Which Jim Carrey Movie Was His Finest?

By Mike Brubeck

If you asked a movie fan to name some of the best actors in comedy over the last 20 years, one of the first that comes to mind for most will be Jim Carrey. The famous actor rakes in tens of millions of dollars per move, and it's simply because of the fact that people love him.

At the end of the day, determining which Jim Carrey movie was his best is a difficult task. With so many great movies in his arsenal, it's hard to narrow it down to one.

Looking at some of Jim Carrey's earlier movies, the first two that put him on the map were his Ace Ventura movies and The Mask.

These both made Carrey a household name, thanks to his outrageous antics and bold sense of humor. He quickly became the hottest comedy actor in the nation, riding the success of those releases.

Still, it was Dumb and Dumber, which followed about a year later, that many believe was Carrey's funniest movie ever. Starring with Jeff Daniels as Lloyd Christmas, a dimwit living in Providence, Carrey travels across the country with Daniels to chase the woman of his dreams.

A few years later, The Cable Guy came out, and many had mixed opinions about this. Still, there are some who swear that The Cable Guy was Carrey's best and funniest performance. Others prefer his work in Me, Myself, and Irene, another Carrey movie that many believe to be underrated.

After a number of comedic successes, Carrey decided to spend some time on more serious roles. His starring roles in movies like The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind both won critical praise, and showed the world that Carrey is a talented actor on many levels.

There are many Jim Carrey movies to choose from here, and narrowing it down to one will be extremely difficult for most movie fans. Still, everyone has that one special movie that stands out in their minds. - 30542

Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 Interactive Features

By Edward McKellen

Sony is one of the leading HDTV brands today, and as proof, it has come up with one of the most interactive HDTV models - the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100. Indeed, this model is loaded with many interactive features, the addition of which comes at a relatively low extra cost.

To keep you updated on important events, the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 comes with the three basic Yahoo Widgets - Yahoo News, Yahoo Weather and Yahoo Finance. Yahoo News load the quickest of them all, but only displays a bit of information and not the entire story from various categories like Politics and Entertainment, without an option to read more, while Yahoo Weather, which displays the current weather and a five-day forecast for various cities, and Yahoo Finance, which allows you to import and keep track of stock information, take a few minutes to load. These Yahoo widgets can also be found on other models and even in other brands. However, the good thing about having them on the KDL-65W5100 is that you can place them wherever you want on the screen, not just at the bottom.

The KDL-65W5100 also has a Twitter widget, which displays the most recent tweets, either from your own account or an account you follow, and is even updated real-time. You can even post your own tweet, although you will have to use the directional keys on the remote to navigate through the virtual keyboard, which can be quite frustrating.

Aside from these widgets, the KDL-65W5100 is also capable of video streaming, which means that unlike the case with other models, you don't need to buy the Bravia Internet Video Link to watch your favorite videos from the internet on your HDTV screen. For example, you can watch HD content from Amazon Video on Demand, which only takes a few minutes to load.

You can also watch videos from YouTube and a variety of clips from other providers like Sports Illustrated, CBS, The Minisode Network, Blip.tv, Howcast.com, FEARnet and Style.com, among others. A partnership with Netflix-on-Demand is also in the works, which means that soon, you can have the chance to watch your favorite movies and TV episodes instantly on your HDTV screen.

If you have video content stored on your other computers, you can access them, too, thanks to the enhanced DLNA capability of the KDL-65W5100. Of course, you can access your stored music files, too, without even leaving your seat, although you can simply listen to your favorite Internet Radio station with the push of a few buttons.

Lastly, the KDL-65W5100 has an interactive program guide. This means that by just pushing a button, you can take a look at the most updated list of TV shows and movies available for you to view, so you won't miss out on your favorites.

These interactive features truly make the Sony Bravia KDL-65W5100 stand out from the rest of the HDTV models around, and with its great picture quality, energy-saving options and various picture presets, it certainly is an HDTV to consider if you want a large one for your spacious living room but don't want to spend too much. Connectivity is not a problem either. As with most Sony Bravia models, the connectivity suite of the KDL-65W5100 offers four HDMI inputs - although for a change, you will find most of them at the side, together with the PC input and USB slot, and only one at the rear. - 30542

Keep A Few Things In Mind About Lg Lcd Televisions And How Quality Is Built Into Them

By Matthew Kerridge

What to know about LG LCD televisions comes down to understanding that this high-quality manufacturer of equally high quality consumer electronics -- including televisions -- has been working hard to deliver a wide range of televisions to the domestic market and has also been working to get the word out about the quality it has built-in to just about every piece of consumer electronics it makes.

The first thing to understand about the liquid crystal display TVs is that they are a qualitative step upwards from old style cathode ray tube, or CRT, televisions. Actually, the CRT television -- even at its most improved -- bases most of its picture technology from science that was mature over 70 years ago. It's only been tweaked around the edges since.

And even though LCD televisions are so superior, they actually didn't come completely into their own until several years ago. Prior to that, they were a work in progress and they didn't actually deliver true high definition until just a few years back. Additionally, in order to see how superior LCD is, put a 22 inch CRT TV next to a 22 inch LCD TV and it's easy to see why the LCD TV is so superior.

For starters, no CRT TV can actually deliver true high definition because the limitations involved in using a cathode ray tube along with the display area that the TV must take advantage of means that picture will never be as outstanding as what can be delivered with a high definition LCD television such as what is available from LG. In televisions, LG is recognized as an industry leader.

That's because LG LCD televisions are an actual improvement over standard LCD televisions in many ways. The company has taken a standard LCD set up and improved it and added a great many features to make it one of the best TVs in the market today. LG has a name that speaks to high quality in almost every aspect of its manufacture, sales and service activities.

All of that hard work is starting to pay off nicely in this country, and LG has increased sales and market share year-over-year for at least the last half decade. Today, a television set made by LG is looked upon as a TV that almost everybody would one day like to own. This is due to the fact that LG looks at an LCD TV and considers how it can take the technology and improve it even more.

As far as finding retailers that sell LG LCD televisions, it is only necessary to go to the Internet and do a quick search. Also, the company's website has a retailer locator. The one thing that is absolutely for sure is that the company has made a big push into the domestic television market with its lineup of LCD TVs. Keep in mind that LG is a high-line TV maker, so its TVs probably won't be cheap. - 30542

A New and Improved Dallas Mavericks

By Andy Worrell

The Dallas Mavericks lost in the second round to the Denver Nuggets in the 09' playoffs. This time the Mavs weren't the favorites but the under dogs - which they are not familiar in being.

The team established itself as an elite force in the Western Conference and a heavy slew of talent has always been present in Dallas.

The last two seasons have been somewhat disappointing for the Dallas Mavericks compared to seasons past. Mark Cuban has realized this, and has elected to do something about it.

The Mavs plays in a very tough Western Conference with the Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, the improving Portland Trail Blazers, Utah Jazz, and Houston Rockets. In the 08-09' there were 6 teams in the West with more then 50 wins - this upcoming season should be no different.

The Western Conference is loaded with very good teams and winning the West will prove to be very difficult for the Mavs. Dirk can't win games by himself all the time and will need even more help from players like Jason Terry, Josh Howard and newly acquired Shawn Marion.

Drew Gooden will be a big presence in the paint for Dallas. One of the Dallas Mavericks' weakest points in recent years has been rebounding. Gooden should help in this area with his size, 6'10 and 250lbs.

Dirk Nowitzki is often forced to focus on rebounds, which takes away from his ability to do what he does best - score the basketball. He's still put up big numbers over the years, but it's been tough come playoff time. He's been called out on his presence when it comes to playing under pressure.

The Lakers are the favorite once again to win the West, but things can change, players can get hurt, teams that were once good the previous season aren't so much the next, many things can happen. The Mavs hope they will rise again to the top of the West, but it won't be easy. - 30542

When It Comes To Lg Televisions In All Their Variations

By Matthew Kerridge

A very popular television maker in Europe and elsewhere which has lately been making a lot of noise in this country is LG. LG televisions are known in the consumer electronics industry as being some of the best high-definition, flat-panel TVs around, and there's a large variety of sizes and types (true high-def, high-def, LCD, plasma etc.)currently being offered by the manufacturer.

As a consumer electronics manufacturer, LG slots into the mid to upper levels of the market, and its TVs are among some of the most wanted in the business. For sure, there are several liquid crystal display (LCD) models of smaller size and older technology that can be had at a nice price, but its true specialty lays in the higher-technology offerings it brings to the upper range of the segment.

This quality maker of fine televisions offers an array of flat-panel, high-definition televisions in liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma technologies. Most televisions offered by LG come in true high-definition, meaning they are available in 1080p and 1080i. Lower-level (and less-expensive) televisions are still available in 720, though they are becoming hard to find.

LCD television has a great many advantages of old-style CRT (cathode ray tube) televisions, which are actually based on 70 or 80-year old technology at heart. Imagine a 22-inch CRT-type television and then compare it to a 22-inch LCD TV. The LCD unit will present a sharp, high-definition picture, will be compact and will be very light in weight and easy to move around

LG televisions are also offered in plasma models which are as good as LCD TVs (or better, in certain cases) in presenting super-sharp high-definition displays. A plasma model weighs more than an LCD model of the same size, but plasma has a number of display and picture advantages that an LCD doesn't. It's more a matter of preference and what one's looking for in high-def TVs, for the most part.

When it comes to price, understand that LG televisions aren't usually going to be priced in the bargain basement or close to it, for that matter. At certain price points, they can be very competitive and will offer many features over there more common competitors. LCD TVs by the maker will also cost less than plasmas by LG at every size. Any LG TV brings with it a high-line feel that's hard to duplicate.

When looking for LG televisions, check online on the Internet, first of all. Many fine retailers now carry this manufacturer's models in all of the types (LCD, plasma etc.) and styles and sizes the maker is currently manufacturing. There has been limited availability on some of the more higher-line models but they can easily be placed on expedited order if so desired. - 30542

Is the Samsung UE46B7000 Worth Considering?

By Gretchen Hill

Remember that old console TV that sat in Grandma's living room? Or perhaps your parents had one. Back then choice meant black + white or colour. Having a colour TV made you the king of the block. You had bragging rights if there was a colour Model in your living room. Now-a-days those console Model's are used as fish tanks and colour TV's are the only choice. You are not hot stuff if you do not have the latest greatest flat screen Model the size of the Berlin Wall. Well the Berlin Wall has been torn down and so has the myth that size is everything. The important thing now is picture quality, and the Samsung UE46B7000 LED Set offers just that.

The giant "Big Screen" boxes that filled living rooms in the 90's are now going the way of black + white Model's. What is 'big' now is the ultimate in picture quality and clarity. There are so many options to choose from now-a-days, how do you make heads and tails of it all? What makes the best Set? Is a Set like the UE46B7000 the right Television for me?

Looking for a new high resolution Set is like trying to learn a new language just so you can go on vacation. The acronyms are dizzying. DLP, LED, CRT, and HD Model what do they all mean?

Cathode Ray Tube is the big black floor models that have were yesterday's technology. These big boys used guns to project an image onto a piece of glass.

High Definition relates to the amount of little dots or pixels that fill a screen. High definition is not really a type of TV but rather a moniker that covers any picture such as that on the UE46B7000 that contains a larger amount of pixels than the old style televisions.

DLP = Digital Light Processing. This technology utilises thousands of individual pixel cells or microscopic fluorescent light bulbs and a Digital micro mirror device consisting of more than 1. 3 million micro mirrors to project the image.

Lastly and the one we want to be concerned with is the term LED or Light Emitting Diode. These Television's such as the Samsung UE46B700 LED TV consist of a series of diodes or tubes that project a great amount of light. These diodes provide a crisper and clearer picture and also provide a larger range of colours. The more the colours the more realistic and bold a picture can be.

LP and LED offer two different technologies that achieve similar results. They are now available in similar sizes and price ranges and are becoming direct competition with each other.

LED offers an overall better quality picture than DLP's particularly in televisions 52" or smaller. The Samsung UE46B7000 LED Model offers the highest quality of any LED Model in its size and price range.

The Samsung UE46B7000 LED Set is one of the highest quality LED TV's in its size and price range. This tV is thin but does not lack in what it takes to produce a high quality image. Samsung's picture ratio is one of the best available. What is great is that this HD image is available in a wafer thin housing that does not retract from your homes decor.

The Samsung UE46B7000 LED Model offers a full 46" screen that provide a wide screen image similar to those in theatres without being bulky and is light and fully wall mountable. With this offering from Samsung it can truly be said that bold is beautiful. - 30542

Chicago Bulls Under Vinny Del Negro

By Michael Freel

The Chicago Bulls are a very young team. Just a couple of seasons ago, they were one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.

The Bulls were a very good home team, 28-13, but a terrible road team,--28. This will have to improve if the Bulls want home court advantage in the playoffs come the spring time.

Point guard and rookie sensation Derrick Rose had a fantastic rookie season. Rose averaged 6 assists per game, 16 points per game and started 81 games. Rose is a very explosive player and has all-star written on him.

Much of the Bulls' success hinges upon the youth of this team. It seems as if each season, the Chicago Bulls are acquiring more promising young talent, and one season, everything will gel. This may be the year. Let's take a look at some of the players in the mix.

First and foremost, there's Derrick Rose. The standout rookie point guard lived up to the expectations placed upon any first overall draft pick. Having scored 16.8 points per game to go with his 6.3 assists, it wasn't just Rose's numbers that were impressive. It was his poise and leadership on the court that won the Chicago Bulls many games. This was well noticed around the league, and enough to give Rose the NBA's rookie of the year award.

Also present are Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas, both defensive monsters capable of rebounding, blocking shots, and more.

And then there's Luol Deng, still only 24 years of age. He's had some bad luck with injuries, but if Deng can stay healthy, he will add a great value to this team.

The Bulls lack a scoring big man, while they have Tyrus Thomas, Brad Miller and Joakim Noah, none are low post scoring threats each time down the court. Their skills are not "low post friendly". The Bulls big men typically get their points off rebounds and fast breaks points. This will be a problem for the Bulls now that the Cavs have Shaquille O'Neal. Brad Miller always seemed to guard Shaq well throughout his career. - 30542

Helpful Background About Lg Tvs And Why They're So Popular

By Matthew Kerridge

The fact is today -- when it comes to televisions -- LG TVs are of excellent quality. In fact, they're outstanding in every way, generally speaking, and most folks can take comfort in knowing that when it's time to move up market when it comes to televisions, LG will be sure to have a high-definition TV ready for purchase. This very popular consumer electronics maker has really been delivering the goods.

LG makes a variety of televisions in a range of sizes from small to extremely large and in two of the most popular technologies; liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma. As a maker of high-line consumer electronics, LG has put a great deal of effort into developing an array of features for each of its televisions as well as a suite of electronics that make these TVs some of the best in the business.

Generally speaking, liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions work great when they're of relatively moderate (say, below 42 inches) screen size, though nobody would dispute that they're perfectly capable of handling even larger sizes than that. They also are a bit more common than their plasma cousins. But any LG plasma TV is awesome at 42 inches and above, which might be due to how a plasma screen works.

LG offers models in both technologies (LCD and plasma) that are true high-definition, meaning they come in at 1080p or 1080i. There are still a few older 720p TVs with the LG logo on them, but this isn't true high-definition, and it only costs slightly more to get a 1080 television. At any rate, any LCD or plasma TV will be far superior to old-style cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs, without question.

When any LG television is compared head-to-head against a similar-sized CRT (cathode ray tube) TV, the LG will win hands down every time. For one, no CRT television can come close to matching the display put up by either an LG LCD or plasma television. Additionally, a CRT TV weighs many times more than any LCD or plasma television offered by the company.

When it comes down to whether one is interested in LG TVs in liquid crystal display or plasma display, the feeling among most experts is that -- at the larger sizes -- plasma screen TVs offer a better display, especially at the edges of the screen and when looking at it from the side. LCD TVs, though, can weigh less and cost less, so that's something that needs to be taken into account.

Regardless of any other consideration, the fact is that one probably can't go wrong when looking at any style or technology when it comes to LG TVs. This quality maker of fine consumer electronics has developed a lineup of flat panel high-definition televisions that stand head-and-shoulders above their peers in almost every case, and an LG television in the home can be a welcome sight. - 30542

Panasonic Projection Televisions: See The Difference

By Emad Fuad

Panasonic Projection Televisions are available in both rear and front projection models. Panasonic, a manufacturer that is now going through a merger which includes Sanyo, offers large screen projection televisions which incorporate an LCD flat panel, combining the best of flat screen resolution with the high definition sight and sound of projection TV. You could select your high definition Panasonic projection television in sizes from 42 to 60 inches. Panasonic markets both the liquid crystal definition (LCD) screens, and plasma screens. The newer Panasonic projection televisions use LCD screens.

High definition sight and sound are some of the many reasons that customers select Panasonic projection televisions. These televisions utilize LCD technology so that they can accept a tiny projection from a digital signal and enlarge the image to the size of the screen. Digital transmission, which can be received through cable, satellite or a digital conversion box, provides a stronger signal that results in a clearer picture. The outdated, analog signals which we depended on for the last seventy years will cease being transmitted by the summer of 2009.

The Panasonic Projection Televisions don't just feature vastly improved visual and auditory performance, they additionally provide a built in tuner. Consequently you could pick up various stations currently being broadcast digitally. HDMI is the most promising improvement incorporated into Panasonic projection televisions. HDMI refers to high definition multimedia interface. HDMI technology enables the projection television to process both picture and sound signals at once. Panasonic projection televisions come equipped with technology that allows digital signals as well as analog signals.

One of the irritants that consumers once had with projection televisions was a bird's nest of wires which seemed to sprout from the rear of their appliance. Owners also complained of a disjointedness between the program and the soundtrack in their previous home theater systems. Now that Panasonic projection televisions employ HDMI technology, home theater owners no longer have to worry about problems like these if they own this big screen TV.

There are a number of different kinds of technology that can be used when making a projection TV. Panasonic projection TV uses digital light processing to produce the image on the screen. Digital light processing, or DLP, represents the most advanced technology that is employed in projection televisions. When it comes to front projection television, electronics companies are relying on both LCD and DLP technology, each of them having been regarded as state of the art for the purpose of projection television technology.

Consumers who purchase Panasonic projection televisions often are looking to enjoy the most advanced viewing experiences using digital transmission. Modern projection televisions that are being sold by electronics companies like Panasonic are a more affordable way to have quality large screen television pictures. Panasonic projection televisions offer an established brand name and a variety of home theater systems with movie theater quality. - 30542

Things to Know Before Buying an LCD Television

By John Dulaney

All LCD televisions are also ready to accept HDTV (high definition television) and DTV (digital television) signals and would thus be quite functional a few years down the line, when these signals become more widespread. A majority of LCD screens can also be used as computer monitors because they can be hooked up to a VGA or DVI signal, though the resolutions of various screens tend to vary with different models and brands.

Issues with the LCD television and emerging solutions

Potential buyers who wish to replace their traditional CRT with the latest LCD need to be aware of the pros and cons of the new LCD technology and how the differences between the two technologies would alter their lifespan and viewing pleasure. The viewing angle for LCD televisions based on PVA and S-PVA LCD panels is limited to about--0 degrees, after which distortion sets in. For both light scenes and images and their darker counterparts, LCDs work better due to their high contrast ratio. The disadvantage of this technology lies in the appearance of "ghosting" when the image varies and moves between different dark shades.

Televisions with CRT technology do not suffer from "ghosting" as the phosphor contained in the CRT panel is charged by the strike of a beam of electrons. Most of the light is emitted in a comparatively shorter period of time, usually less than 1 millisecond, compared to a refresh period of about 20 milliseconds. For an LCD television, each pixel emits light of a fixed intensity for a stretch of approximately 20 milliseconds in addition to the time it takes to go over to the next state (or the refresh period, which is usually between 12 and 25 milliseconds).

This stretch of time, also known as the response time, can be lessened by the design of the panel, or through the use of overdriving technology, but the response time can only be cut down to the length of the refresh period. Bringing the response time to a level equal to the refresh period is usually enough to watch films and television programs, but for those who want to watch videos shot at 50 or 60 frames a second on certain LCD televisions, some ghosting issues still remain. - 30542

Samsung LCD TV Essentials

By Matthew Kerridge

Samsung is an excellent producer of electronics including LCD televisions. Buyers can expect to receive unprecedented quality for their money and for their Samsung LCD TV to be an amazing addition to their home entertainment system. The LCD TVs come in different series, are praised for excellent picture quality, help improve home electronic connectivity, and have a variety of screen sizes for consumers to choose from.

Samsung LCD TVs are categorized in different series to ensure that each consumer will find what they are looking for. Features, specifications, and price are the main differences between the series, but all provide quality and excellent performance. The biggest difference between the series is that the dynamic contrast ratio is progressively higher with each series. In addition, resolution, screen size options, and other features vary with each series. The higher series offer the absolute cutting-edge while the lower series are generally more affordable.

A Samsung LCD TV is a good choice for unrivalled picture quality. There are several factors that contribute to the HDTV picture: resolution, dynamic contrast ratio, and pixel response time. Higher series come with a stunning 1080p resolution and the lower series with 720p. Higher resolution gives more clarity, sharpness and detail to the picture. The contrast between light and dark colors is known as the dynamic contrast ratio. The higher the contrast the more vibrant and crisp the images appear. Series 7 offers 150,000:1 while lower series offer between 50,000:1 and 100,000:1. Samsung LCD TVs offers a pixel response time of 2ms-6ms. These fast response times ensure smooth motion during action.

Additional features for amazing images are included in the higher-end Samsung LCD TVs. An ultra clear panel absorbs ambient light and helps reduce reflections to further improve the picture. The wide color enhancer creates unrivalled detail and images by providing brilliant cross-spectrum color. Lastly, a feature called auto motion plus helps eliminate motion blur and generate smooth transitions between frames.

New Samsung LCD TVs come equipped with a feature called Medi@2.0 to increase connectivity. Medi@2.0 expands the possibility of the TV with Internet TV and access to content from Flickr, Yahoo! and more. Content from digital cameras and thumb drives can be accessed through the USB2.0 port. Further, HDMI 1.3 ports make it easy to connect and network other home theater components.

Consumers can choose from a variety of screen sizes for their Samsung LCD TV. Screen sizes range from'" up to 65". In addition, all of the TVs are less than 2" in depth. It is a good idea for potential buyers to consider where their new LCD TV will go to ensure they have adequate space for it.

Amazing performance is housed in a sleek and elegant body to enhance the look of a home. All of the TVs feature sturdy and beautiful construction that can accent any home setting. Some of the higher series offer Touch of Color, which is a rich red color lining the exterior frame of the TV for additional aesthetics and accent. - 30542

The Significant Presence In The Video Technology

By Anca Vitalis

When the talk starts about the two major video projection technologies - LCD and DLP most people looking to buy a projector know the differences between the two. But a third technology that emerges is one worthy of attention producing high quality video images that overpower LCD and DLP. It is called LCOS and deserves our attention.

LCD uses liquid crystals one for every pixel. The light goes through them on its way to the lenses and it in modulated by the liquid crystals that it is traversing. It is a transitive technology. The DLP uses microscopic mirrors, one for every pixel reflecting the light. This is a modulating technology and it is reflexive.

LCOS is a combination from these two technologies. Mainly it is a reflexive technology using liquid crystals instead of individual mirrors. At LCOS, the liquid crystals are applied on a reflexive, mirror like, type layer. As the crystals open and close the light is reflected but not towards the mirror they are applied on. This is how the image is created. The LCOS projectors are using mainly 3 chips one for the modulation of the light on the channels red, green and blue. Similar to LCD, LCOS projects the red, green and blue components simultaneously. The rotating disc from DLP technology is absent.

The LCOS technology has a very high resolution and naturally is more expensive than the majority of LCD or DLP products. There are no SVGA resolutions at LCOS projectors and seldom XGA equipments. Generally the LCOS projectors come with SXGA (1365x 1024) technologies or higher and that is why, by definition, they are not cheap.

So, due to the high resolution and the large dimension, the LCOS technology was not adapted for the slender, portable video projectors. The LCD and DLP projectors are presently selling in large quantities and are the best sold options for mobile, educational and Home Theater usage; this is the reason for which they are enjoying a higher attention. Because LCOS is not sold in similar quantities many people believe it is not that good. This is not correct at all. Many well informed video-fans looking for elegant solutions in home theaters are choosing the LCOS technology due to those characteristics that neither LCS nor DLP can use. - 30542

By Tommy Hammerman

There are many things to consider when buying a flat screen tv. Let's take a look at them. For convenience of tucking the cables and wires out of sight it is necessary to place the unit near by the energy sockets. Usually TV screen should be in the distance of viewer from three to six times which will result out the perfect place to view the TV for getting the best result and it will not harm the eyes of viewer and viewer will enjoy the quality of resolutions.

The screen of a TV is measured in terms of its aspect ratio; the aspect ratio is the vertical and horizontal measurement of the screen of a TV. The shape of a screen of the TV relates to its aspect ratio, the aspect ratio of old models of televisions were 4:3 but the new models of television have wider screen and there aspect ratio is 16:9. NBA Review for November 2009

By Alex Thompson

I know that it's very early in the season, but it's never too early to begin an exciting conversation that can get basketball lovers going back and forth for hours. It's a simple question, but the answer is never so easy. Who is the best team in the NBA this season?

As I write this, we're only a couple of weeks into the season. Many would say that we haven't seen enough basketball to make this determination, but I'm going to go out on a limb with a few proclamations that I do believe will hold true at the end of the season. Let's see if I'm right.

All due respect to some of the players that I'm about to put down, but I'm simply stating my opinions here. I believe that a player can be great on paper, and possibly a great fit for certain teams, but there are three players who've all flocked to elite teams this season, and I believe that none of them are the types of players who win their teams games. In fact, I believe just the opposite.

In the case of Ron Artest with the Lakers, I'm not quite sure if he'll be good for the team. While he's obviously an exceptional player, I think that he still has attitude and maturity issues to deal with.

He's gone from team to team in the NBA and never seems to find a home where he's loved. LA took a chance with him and I'm not sure that I agree with the move.

As far as the Cavs go, Shaq is a different situation than the chemistry issues that Ron Artest may pose. His teammates will most likely love him. As far as the impact he has on the team goes, however, I'm not so sure that it's a good one. He's big and slow, and I think he's mixing things up too much.

Vince Carter hasn't found his rhythm in Orlando, and I'm not convinced that he ever will. I believe that he's a ball hog who did more bad for the Nets than good.

This leaves me with the Boston Celtics. Rasheed Wallace was a winner in Detroit, and will be the same in Boston. Therein lies the strongest team in the NBA, in my opinion. - 30542

Keeping The Brotherhood In Motorcycle Clubs

By L.J. James

I wrote an article a while back called "Why speak to the Motorcycle Clubs in your area before starting a new MC?" It was about why those wishing to start new Motorcycle Clubs should go and speak to those who have come before them. If you have not read the article look it up on my March 2009 archive page on NY-Biker.com

Since then, I've begun seeing and hearing some things that worry me. I have seen many groups popping up. Some of these groups have names like Lone Wolf or Independent Riders. While I suppose the names are meant to distance these groups from real motorcycle clubs, they still resemble legitimate clubs in the way they dress, and to a certain degree, the way they act.

Now I am sure some of you are saying "hey LJ these guys just want to do their own thing back off a bit, what really is the harm in what these guys are doing?" Well that's the Million dollar Question! Exactly what is the real harm? Let me see if I can explain how I see it.

If you put on a uniform, pinned on a badge and hung out at Dunkin Donuts you may look like and act like a cop but you would not be a real cop. When a real cop saw you, You would probaly be in a lot of trouble!

Now due to High Gas Prices, The Economy, and people waking up to the fact that riding a Motorcycle is one of the Greatest things in the world, the ranks of motorcycle riders have exploded. Many of these new riders see shows like Sons Of Anarchy, Gangland or movies like Hell Ride and think, "This is cool, I'm going to start a Club" even though they know nothing about Motorcycle Clubs or the Biker lifestyle.

Shows like Sons of Anarchy are a fictional dramatization of what a group of television writers think a Motorcycle Club is. Programs like Gangland claim to investigate 1%er Clubs. Their "investigation consists of looking up every little Crime members of a 30 year old Motorcycle Club have ever been accused of and then Squeeze all the Negative info about the MC into about 45 Minutes of air time.

The concern is that you have new and independent riders forming "Clubs" with no real knowledge of what it means to be a member of a Motorcycle Club. Some of these clubs are forming with only shows like SOA and Gangland as the model for what a Motorcycle Club should be.

Being a member of a Motorcycle Club is about Brotherhood, Loyalty, Respect, Freedom, and Honor. It's not about Drugs, Guns, and Biker Wars.

In the Motorcycle Club world you start off as either a prospect for an established Motorcycle Club or your new MC starts off as a Supporter of a established MC and they help to teach you what it truly means to be a Member of a Motorcycle Club.

It's like an artist taking on an apprentice and passing on what he has learned. The knowledge he passes on has been passed on down to him for Hundreds of Generations.

Now where the danger lies is the art being taught can be thousands of years old but, It only takes one generation of not passing the right information down and the art is lost forever!

With the creation of so many pseudo MC's, We risk a danger a lot worse than losing the art of what a Motorcycle Club is all about , We risk watching the Mutation of the World We all Love turned into something as ugly as the negative, hyped up TV Shows and movies we've all seen.

If your thinking about starting a Motorcycle Club or want to join one, start by talking to local Club members you see at events or contact established Clubs directly. Every MC has its own set of rules, etc, but if you're serious about becoming an MC or MC Member, you'll have no problem finding the situation that is right for you. As I said in the beginning, I have no problem with people starting their own Clubs. It's just that starting a Motorcycle Club is something that should be done the right way and not be taken lightly. Let us work together to Preserve the Heritage of the Motorcycle Club world and make it stronger, not destroy it.

A Look at the Top Models in the HDTV Market

By John Abraham

An HDTV should never be an impulse buy for the majority of customers. The good news is, it doesn't need to become a lesson in rocket science, either. While looking at these HDTVs, it is particularly common for a normal customer to be inundated by a deluge of acronyms, numbers and technical terms, chiefly if you don't know very much about electronics. Quite a few folks believe that sort of techno-speak to be enlightening, but plenty of us don't. In acknowledgment of that issue, what follows is several helpful HDTV reviews which strive to simply report how well the products work, without being lost in the mysterious intricacies of how they are able to perform that task. A great model is the Sony Bravia KDL-46S5100 HDTV.

Samsung UNB8500

This HDTV is quite close to doing the impossible - being too rich and too thin. Samsung's prima donna is priced at nearly $4000 and comes with an ultraslim profile, making it the current supermodel of HDTVs. Every flat panel screen is a stylish, well-proportioned item whether it performs well or not. This particular flat-panel screen also delivers the most lifelike picture quality possible with an LCD screen today. Because it is a flat-panel LCD screen, though, the more satisfactory place for watching is straight in front of the screen. If you are located at an angle relative to the screen, you might have a rough time seeing the video display or the reason for such a high price tag.

Panasonic TC-P50V10

Panasonic's highest quality plasma HDTV actually offers a better picture than Samsung's top performing television reviewed above. Not surprisingly, this is because plasma screens simply perform better than LCD screens nearly every time. You could watch the high-definition video from quite a few angles as opposed to being trapped directly in front of the video display. The picture you get to see is higher quality, as well, since as opposed to being comprised of pixels, or very tiny squares, the picture flows together as if it were being broadcast through liquid, which it is. It's likely that just the fussiest videophiles will actually care about that feature, so why should anyone else find this attractive? Perhaps because Panasonic's plasma TV will set you back nearly $2000 less than Samsung's bit of wall candy.

Sharp AQUOS LC-32D62U

Sharp additionally has a respectable representative in the mega-sized, many-pixel category. It has a high-resolution LCD screen that gives you very crisp pictures when you are at an angle from the screen, not only when you are trapped precisely in front of it. Sharp's HDTV is quite adaptable on account of it has two integrated HDMI converters, which allow you to attach devices such as game systems which are not yet HDTV capable. It also has some additional HD component inputs, in case you may be upgrading everything at once, and intend to use it all today. Sharp's marvelous toy comes with an additional attractive feature: its price tag of just short of $1200 renders it practically affordable when balanced against our two other reviewed HDTVs. Another nice option is the Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR9 HDTV.

You can see hundreds of high performance HDTVs on the market currently, and they may be purchased with features and prices to meet each household's needs. Can Hasselbeck Stay Healthy For the Seattle Seahawks?

By Henry Boland

The Seattle Seahawks seem to be poised for a bounce back year, following a disappointing 2008 campaign that saw the team finish with a losing record. They've made some changes; most importantly their new head coach Jim Mora.

The 09' season for the Seahawks should be well improved -- the Seahawks might not be Super Bowl contenders but should compete in every game they are in.

Flashes of that returned last week, when Hasselbeck was forced out of the Seahawks' game against the San Francisco 49ers during week 2 of the 2009 NFL season.

At the goal line, Hasselbeck was hit hard by 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis, and was forced to leave the game. Some x-rays conducted later revealed that Hasselbeck had suffered a bruise to the ribs, and his status for the team's week 3 game against the Bears at home is in doubt.

In 08', Hasselback only started 7 games for the Seahawks -- when he did play he only completed 52% of his pass attempts with 5 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Hasselback is in his mid 30s -- there are not many good years left for him one would assume if he can't stay on the field.

The Seahawks looked great in an easy week 1 victory against the visiting St. Louis Rams, blanking them by a score of 28-0. Let's keep in mind that the Rams were one of the worst teams in the league last season, so this doesn't prove much.

The Super Bowl days for the Seattle Seahawks may be gone but that doesn't mean they can't compete and give opponents trouble every game.

Hopefully, the injuries that wrecked the Seahawks 08' season can be avoided in 09'. If they can stay healthy, they'll at least be able to put up a fight in plenty of games. - 30542

The Relevant Information About ARC Lamps

By Ancutza Vitalis

The first ARC lamps were developed in'09 by Sir Humphrey Davy. These lamps were carbonic arch lamps functioning with one carbon baguettes fixed at each of the two polls of a battery and creating through their touch a white incandescent light. If these baguettes were separated and put at a distance of 10 cm they would create a luminous strong white light arch. These principal is what stays at the base of the projector lamps present nowadays.

The ARC lamps used in video projectors have a limited functionality period. The life span of an ARC lamp refers to the exact period during which the intensity of the lamps luminosity decreases by half from the initial value and quality. This feature is estimated in hour value and comes with an estimated functioning period somewhere between 1.000 and 4.000 hours.

A high quality lamp will have larger life duration and of course will decrease the maintenance expenses for the owner of the video-projector. It is also very important to keep in mind that after the estimated time for the lamp functioning has past it is not exactly mandatory for the lamp to malfunction immediately. The lamp functioning can go on but the quality of the displayed images will decrease gradually until the replacement of the lamp will become imminent.

It is good to know that the lamps life estimation in hours, defines in fact the half time from the lamps life, meaning that when the maximum of the estimated period of lamp functioning is reached the power of the lamp is at its half potential reported to the quality of its performance in the beginning. If the video projector is used instead of a TV, for movie display, the cost of lamps replacement must be considered when the video projector is purchased.

If you use the projector to see only movies and special events, the life span of the lamp is not so relevant but still needs to be considered. The average use of such a projector is somewhere around 8-12 hours a week and the lamp has a larger life span reported in time. - 30542

Is This It FilmSummary

By Amy Parish

The modern day Michael Jackson was very different from the classic Michael Jackson that became the King of Pop, and one of the greatest entertainers in the history of the world.

Jackson shut himself out from the rest of the world. His child molestation case and the rest of the trouble that the media and the rest of the world gave him obviously took their toll on Jackson, and his music suffered as a result.

Jackson's glory days occurred more than 20 years ago and while he's never been the same ever since, he produced some decent music earlier this decade. It was rumored that another album was in the works, but expectations were nowhere nearly as high as they would have been at his peak.

The world was secretly hoping for a return to his old form, but the thought of that was clearly a mirage. Jackson was never the same, and his untimely death marked the official end of an era in music, though it probably took place years before. Jackson's Is This It proves that theory wrong to some extent.

I was expecting a sappy movie that played into his issues, with a lot of it covered up by the movie makers and everything else. I was wrong though, and many who've seen the movie will probably tell you the very same thing.

Michael Jackson was a class act, and he was in this movie as well. We got a glimpse of the King of Pop during his final days, and we should all consider this a gift as fans of Michael Jackson.

Jackson's voice sounded like his usual voice, and his dance moves were still some of the best in the game. We saw a playful side of Jackson too, which really brought out the fact that he was in fact an ordinary human being, despite his eccentricities.

If you've enjoyed Michael Jackson's music through your life, by all means see this movie. There's no better way to say goodbye to a once in a lifetime legend. - 30542

By Matthew Kerridge

Sony Corporation, a principal force in the advancement of modern electronic equipment is also involved in the motion picture entertainment industry, the worldwide banking business, and the underwriting of various forms of insurance. Sony built televisions offer many outstanding features. If you seek a television that resist the annoying reflection of nearby light sources, a Sony LCD HDTV fills the bill. Viewing in the shadows of an off-centre lamp used to cause some occasional double imagery. With better contrast and brightness controls, a Sony HDTV avoids this aggravation. Viewing angles no longer restrict television placement. A Sony flat screen LCD television presents a wide viewing range that works to help free up home space. Automatic intensity, color scope, and contrast tuning improve viewing and color capacity. An improved fill factor strengthens the quality of picture conversions.

With great technical support, an online Q&A site, and the experience to thrive in a most difficult market, Sony Corporation is here to stay. If you are searching for outstanding entertainment value, it makes no difference which specific model you chose, Sony televisions are just smart buys. - 30542

Tennessee Titans Keep Falling

By Anthony Penn

What has become of the mighty Tennessee Titans. This is a team that opened up the season undefeated through the first two months of the NFL season in 2008.

An amazing defensive unit, two powerful running backs in Chris Johnson and LenDale White, and a team led by the wise ways of accomplished head coach Jeff Fisher.

Many thought this was a Super Bowl team last season. I think I thought so myself. They made a few changes during the off-season that seemed positive.

The running game of the Titans is more dangerous, as Chris Johnson and LenDale White are a formidable running duo. The Titans' defense has been good at stopping the run but not much else. The Titans are among the worst in the NFL in points per game allowed and passing yards per game allowed.

They don't seem to be doing anything different then last year - which might be the problem this year.

With the loss of DT Albert Haynesworth, the Titans defense may not be as strong as it once was but they still have defensive skill players such as Cortland Finnegan, Chris Hope, Keith Bulluck, and Nick Harper.

While it's true that the Texans seem to play the Titans well (think back to that nail biter last season with all of those Rob Bironas field goals), the Titans looked pretty dreadful during the loss. Their running game was fine, but the defense was notably weaker than that of last season. They looked like one of the worst defensive units in the entire NFL.

After two weeks of the NFL season, the Titans find themselves in the cellar of the AFC South. Quite the change from last year. - 30542
