The Toshiba 32RV635DB - A First Review

By Eric Steele

It's surprising to think back to 2008 and recognize that this was the year when we saw CRT technology virtually disappear off of the map. LCD technology pushed it out and we'll never see it again.

2008 saw an almost absolute change from the older CRT technology to the newer, sharper LCD technology. All of the recent releases are high definition capable LCD or plasma screen TVs. One of these LCD televisions is the Toshiba Regza 32RV635DB.

The 32RV635DB is the British brother of the Toshiba 32RV365. Aside from having three pins, it is completely the same as the Toshiba television model 32RV635.

It is a 32 inch wide screen television designed for an optimum viewing distance of eight to ten feet. The design and appearance of the cabinet on the 32RV635DB make it every bit as beautiful an addition to a room's decor as many higher priced models.

If you were planning on doing some serious gaming with this HDTV, you may want to try another model.

The entire RV series of televisions from Toshiba has a feature that will make them very attractive to those seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. There is a switch on the left panel near the rear of the 32RV635DB that is a hard disconnect. Throwing this switch reduces power consumption from a normal standby of around 3 watts when turned off to less than 1 watt.

This Toshiba model gives you new GUI on all of the menu screens. This means that the Graphic User Interface on the 32RV635DB is bright and vivid, easy for you to read the menus and that's a nice change. Many other models will have you squinting and standing right in front of the television just to be able to read the menus and change any settings that you desire.

The remote makes changes to the 32RV635DB simple, including the aspect ratio options, which may need to be changed depending on the programme you're watching.

Upon technical testing, some issues did pop up. There were several overdrive errors that came up and some colour smudging. What this means to you is that if you are the typical television watcher who plans on watching TV shows and movies on a regular basis, the 32RV635DB could be the set for you. If you're looking to play 60p computer games, you may be disappointed by the graphics on this TV.

The Toshiba Regza 32RV635DB has a better than average viewing angle, but at extreme side angles there is some unavoidable shifting of colours and gamma that lead to distortion. As far as sharpness goes, this model has a 1 to 1 pixel mapping which means that the image produced is as sharp as it is possible to obtain.

This isn't a high end HDTV, keep that in mind. If you're an avid gamer, the 32RV635DB isn't for you.

Pick up a Toshiba Regza 32RV635DB for your viewing pleasure and you'll be really surprised at the quality you receive for the price you pay. - 30542
