The Samsung UE46B7000 - One For Your Shortlist

By Gretchen Holmes

There are assorted numbers used for this Samsung TV. The Dixons Store Group (PC World, Currys and Dixons) use UE46B7000. Currys, Dixons and PC World have the 46B7000 style which has a narrow red stripe around the frame. As a rule other shops have the 46B7020 model. This has black edging. Now and again its called the 46B7000WW or the 46B7020W. All these versions are identical Televisions apart from the border.

Build Quality: The most out of the ordinary feature of the UE46B7000 is that it could be described as the supermodel of TVs, being specially thin. In fact it is roughly 29mm in depth. And Samsung hasn't cheated, not like various other manufacturers, by moving some of the inner components to a separate attached box. It has a lustrous finish, together with a conspicuous slender semi-transparent stem, connecting the screen to its base.

Sound: In common with most modern TVs the audio output of the UE46B7000 is poor quality. The width of the UE46B7000 is too little to permit a sufficient sound system. It would be wise to look at adding a surround sound system.

Display Quality: This is the central benefit of the UE46B7000 over its competitors, in that it has replaced fluorescent backlighting with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs). Not everyone realises that the UE46B7000 is still a LCD TV. it is simply the backlighting that's altered. LEDs have the following advantages:

* This technology gives a much more steady backlight across the Television, as it uses a lattice system.

* Flawless blacks are feasible - not viable with conventional Televisions.

* The response rate of the picture is quicker.

* Additional colours can be displayed.

Socket connectivity: The UE46B7000 has all the connections to join to other equipment and PCs that nearly all of us are likely to require - an LAN port, 2 USB ones and 4 HDMI connections. With a separate, readily purchased wireless USB stick, the UE46B7000 can access any home wireless network and also, any USB memory device can be used to permit it to play nearly all multimedia file formats.

There are in point of fact two remotes. The principle one curves over at one end (designed to put on an easy chair arm?). A tad bizarre to hold initially, but you get used to it. And a small remote is also available - enabling power of and on, together with channel and volume changes.

Energy efficiency: LEDs utilize much less power (between 100W and 130W) than the conventional fluorescent backlighting so the TV will be less expensive to run than its competitors.

To conclude, the UE46B7000 is a Top Buy TV in its category. While, in the company of all flat screen televisions, it is let down by its audio output, the deep deep blacks and dazzling colours it makes are better than other comparable TVs. - 30542
